Regina is growing by thousands of people every year and the upward trend continues – though it has slowed in recent years. A Statistics Canada report for the July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015 timeframe indicates Regina is experiencing a stronger than average growth rate at 1.9%, compared to the average growth rate for Canada at 1.2% for the same time period.
Growth has slowed but is still above national average, according to Statistics Canada, there were 257,337 people living in Regina as of July 1, 2018. That translates to population growth of 2.3%. This makes Regina as the sixth fastest growing city in the country and the highest population growth in the Prairies.
Regina’s Official Community Plan, Design Regina, estimates Regina’s population could reach 300,000 around 2040.
We need to continue to promote Regina as a vibrant community and the best place to work, invest, live and play. In parallel, we need to ensure there is a sustainable foundation to support and accommodate growth for both businesses and residents alike.
